New Board Member in A Hand To Children
Hilde Køhler Sommerfeldt has been working together with Inger Ellen Nicolaisen for over 25 years. She knows all too well through supporting and following the foundation closely throughout the years that children need help and your help matters.
Hilde has over 30 years of experience within the hair and beauty industry and today she works as Head of Concept and Leasing in Raise Gruppen. We sat down with Hilde to ask her a few questions about A Hand To Children.
When did you first hear about the foundation?
Over 20 years ago I had the opportunity to visit the orphanage in Lithuania and it deeply affected me. It felt like such a gift to be able to go there and contribute to giving the children help and love, and the warmth they gave back was incredible and very humbling. And to see up close the amazing job done by the team locally every day to help the children was impressive and left a big impression on me.
What memory has had the biggest impact on you?
Some of my strongest memories are to see the sweet faces of the children with eyes full of hope. And to see their smiles was so heartwarming and I was completely taken aback. These were true feelings, children full of hope and to see their appreciation for a warm hug was overwhelming. I remember we were outside playing and I put my hand out, and I immediately had five children in one hand and when I put my other hand out I had another five children in that one. One child in each finger and they would not let go! I will never forget. Another strong memory was when we went out to the villages to visit children who had turned into young adults who had moved back home with their family and they were living under terrible conditions. It was incredibly sad to see these young adults had to take care of their own parents, no child deserves that.
Why did you say yes to become a board member of A Hand To Children?
To get the opportunity to work even closer with the foundation is an honor and very meaningful. I can`t think of anything more rewarding that being able to contribute to making a difference for children.
